The United States Navy Band, established in 1925 and based at the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, D.C., is the official musical organization of the U.S. Navy. Their Commodores jazz ensemble, founded in 1969, is an 18-piece big band widely regarded as one of the finest in the country. The Commodores perform original compositions alongside classic big-band repertoire, and have shared the stage with jazz luminaries including Ray Charles, Clark Terry, and Stanley Turrentine.
